Fortaleza has been accumulating points among the favorite destinations in the Northeast due to the good reputation of its nightlife, which is lively from Monday to Sunday.  But the days under the scalding sun do not take a back seat in attractions, beginning with the comfort of the large-sized beach umbrellas at Praia do Futuro and the ever-present Ceará handicraft.

"Days of sun.  Nights of sound ", is the slogan of a famous night club.  The tourist can dance forró, pagode and samba in the company of hundreds or thousands of people, outdoors and indoors.  The dancing crowd helps one to conceal his/her awkward moves and suppress the shyness of beginners, if drinks such as capeta and tangiroska still haven’t had an effect on you.

The festive and musical atmosphere therefore, can be compared to that of Porto Seguro, another tourist hotspot.  But Fortaleza is many times larger than the Bahia resort: it has approximately 2.4 million inhabitants, intense traffic, shantytowns in the surrounding areas and long seaside promenades in front of hotels and commercial centers with dozens of floors.

Although the majority of the hotels and restaurants are concentrated on the Iracema, Meireles and Mucuripe beaches, pollution invariably prevents swimming in this central tourism area.  Those who wish to have fun in the water all day, without health risks, go to Praia do Futuro and find various bonuses.

Over the last few years, some beach stalls have become leisure complexes.  The time when beach comforts were reduced to working showers, cold beer and health sandwiches in coolers is long gone.  The infrastructure on the sands of Praia do Futuro now have the comforts of beauty salons with masseuses, LAN houses and playgrounds for children. Not to mention bars and restaurants that serve lobster and crab prepared to perfection.  The cultural program there includes musical shows and standup comedy during the evenings right in front of the waves.
